1.1 Display Name (Optional)
Footnote allows users to choose a display name so other group members can identify who created or completed items.
Your display name:
- Is provided manually by you
- Is visible only within shared groups and lists
- Is not verified or linked to your real identity
- Is not combined with other personal information
We do not collect email addresses, phone numbers, contacts, or other personal identifiers.
1.2 Anonymous Authentication
Footnote uses anonymous authentication to generate a unique identifier that allows your data to sync across devices.
This identifier:
- Does not identify you personally
- Contains no personal information
- Is used only to associate app data with your device or session
1.3 User-Generated Content
Footnote stores only the content you intentionally create within the app, such as:
- Notes and lists
- Groups and shared boards
- Item completion status
- Organizational metadata related to your lists
This data is stored either:
- Locally on your device, or
- In secure cloud storage to support syncing and collaboration
Footnote does not analyze the text of your notes, lists, or shared content.
1.4 Anonymous Usage & Group Data
To improve the app and understand how features are used, Footnote may collect limited, anonymous usage data, including:
- List or board category selections (for example, grocery, trip planning, or chores)
- The number of participants in a shared group or list
This information:
- Is collected without identifying individual users
- Is not linked to message content or list text
- Is used only in aggregated form to improve app functionality and performance
2. Messaging Extensions
Footnote includes extensions that allow you to share notes and lists within supported messaging platforms.
Footnote:
- Does not read, store, or analyze message conversations
- Stores only the content you intentionally create and share through the app
Messaging platform rules and privacy policies apply in addition to this Privacy Policy.
3. How We Use Information
We use the information described above solely to:
- Enable syncing across devices
- Support shared groups and collaboration
- Maintain group membership and functionality
- Improve app performance and reliability
We do not:
- Sell personal data
